Movie Monday: Party Monster

This week I am so excited to post about the movie Party Monster!

I love movies that are about subcultures, especially when they surround music. Party Monster tells the story of Michael Alig and James St. James. Club kids and promoters during the late 80's through the 90's. It follows their fun times, adventures and shows how all good things must come to an end. They really came on like a hurricane and brought an in your face craziness out in the open. Michael Alig is a regular guy from Indiana but he moves to New York and becomes virtually a legend in the underground music scene. Fueled by outrageous behavior and extreme drug use, he begins to rise up from the underground and really have a big name for himself. But as his party themes start to get darker and a bit much, his world comes crashing down when he murders his drug dealer. There is a scene from this movie that I will never forget. There is a rat that lives in their apartment. They show the rat talking about the murder and the music becomes very eerie and disturbing. I first saw this movie about 2004 I think (It was about a year after it came out) and I will still never forget how creeped out I got at that scene. This is definitely a good movie and I thought that Macauley Culkin and Seth Green did an outstanding job (although it took a while to get used to seeing Seth Green in this way). But I did think this was a good movie, but the scene of the Rat just stuck with me and at the end, I was still a bit freaked out by it.
