Fireworks and BBQ

I hope that everyone had a safe and fun filled 4th of July! We really had a blast! First here are the two decorations on our house. Yes, I'm sure I could have gone crazy but I think two things was enough this year. I made a wreath for our front door and I also strung some flag garland across our front walkway.

Our fourth of July started off with a bit of friendly competition. I talked to my husband about making ribs in the slow cooker a few days ago and he thought the idea sounded crazy. I told him that I bet they would turn out awesome. He said he didn't think they would turn out as good as his (he is a strictly smokin' and grillin' kind of guy). So Thursday morning after i cooked breakfast for my son, I went to work getting my ribs ready for the slow cooker!

about to get crackin'!

it's on!!

Didn't actually like this mix

gloves for the rubs!

cooking spray around inside of slow cooker

ribs are ready to go!

5hrs in, finished under broiler for 20 minutes, slathered w/ BBQ sauce

We also spent a good portion of the time outside. We set up the sprinkler under our trampoline and let our son go crazy. My husband got in and I even got in with him later in the afternoon. It was honestly a lot of fun and definitely refreshing (it was well into the upper 90's).
this was me before the trampoline & sprinkler

My hubby also went to get some sparklers. Because we live on a military installation, all other fireworks are prohibited. We had a bunch of them so we were still able to have fun. Our son loved the different color changes on them.

looking kinda psycho
OK, much less psycho looking

Okay so I told you guys that we had our rib competition. Our 4 year old was the judge. Here is a photo of my ribs, and my husbands ribs:

Are you ready to find out who won?
MY RIBS WON!! *doing happy dance* My ribs won and honestly I'm really proud of myself. They were juicy, tender and flavorful. Although the next time i choose to make ribs I am going to switch to a different, less salty rub.

We definitely had a blast during the day as well as into the night! Oh yeah.....I'm sure I forgot to mention that there was Rum involved during the evening.

Rum....I like you
