Creativity is something I hold near and dear to my heart. I would certainly consider myself to be a creative person. I find myself constantly working on projects. I know I drive my family crazy because every time they turn around, I'm covered in paint, craft foam or polymer clay. I have a tendency to bounce around from project to project, so my back-and-forth also must drive them crazy. But there's a certain sense of happiness and pride you get from creating something. You made something. You took nothingness and transformed it into something. Some people seem to be born with creative talent, while others (lime myself) have to practice and practice and practice in order to hone our skills. I am by no means saying that I'm great at what I do. I think I perform decently, but there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Lately I have been back sewing and working on cosplay costumes. In another post very soon I'll be going over what I've been working on lately and give details for each costume. That's a post (and video) for another day. There are two conventions that are coming up in 1 and 2 weeks so I am under a time crunch to get the last bits of each costume together. With that being said, there are so many different aspects to the costumes, I have once again bounced around from each one. The main focus is sewing which is 95% complete. However, accessories have taken up the most of my time lately. Belts and pouches and swords and holsters.....I've had a LOT going on lately. The reward will come when my kiddo and I are able to walk around the convention and have fun, and that's what I have been reminding myself.
Okay, my original point (before getting completely side tracked) is that a creative mind is constantly at work. A creative mind looks at the world different. Some people are naturally creative and can easily interpret the world around them into their own way. Others learn over time to. There are so many outlets and ways to express oneself, there really is no limit. Some people choose to express themselves through painting and sculpting, some through fashion, some through music, photography, dance and writing. The key is consistency. I'm sure you've heard, the only way to get better at something is to practice. That's true in every aspect of living, but especially when you are bringing something into existence. Looking at the world and seeing it your own unique way is not only a gift, but you can develop the ability with practicing and challenging yourself. Even if you don't think you're creative, you can develop a creative mind with patience and practice.
“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.”
lotsa love to ya!
